Care Quality Commission (CQC) plays a unique role at the heart of England's health and social care system. Through its regulation and inspection of services ranging from hospitals and GP practices to care homes and mental health services, it helps ensure that people receive safe, effective and compassionate care. Following a period of extensive review and renewal, CQC is focused on restoring confidence, strengthening performance and building a regulator that is expert-led, trusted and effective. As this important journey continues, the organisation is seeking a strategic and influential Chief People Officer to help shape its next chapter.
CQC is now seeking an outstanding Chief People Officer to lead its people, culture and organisational development agenda at a pivotal moment in its evolution. The Chief People Officer will play a central role in creating the conditions for sustainable improvement, ensuring that culture, leadership, workforce capability and organisational effectiveness support CQC's ambitions. Working closely with senior colleagues and engaging with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, the postholder will provide thought leadership on people and culture, lead major transformation and organisational development initiatives, and help foster an environment where colleagues can perform at their best, contribute with confidence and deliver meaningful impact for the public.
Candidates will bring significant senior leadership experience in complex organisations and a strong record of delivering cultural, organisational and workforce transformation. They will possess credibility and judgement to influence at the highest levels, together with expertise across people strategy, organisational development, employee relations and workforce governance. Equally important will be the ability to build trust, navigate complexity and bring people together behind a shared sense of purpose. An inclusive and authentic leader, the successful candidate will combine strategic insight with humanity, resilience and a genuine commitment to public service. This post is offered on a fixed-term basis for an initial period of 12 months. Applications are welcomed from candidates seeking either a fixed-term appointment or a secondment opportunity. Secondments will be subject to agreement between the successful candidate, their employing organisation and the Care Quality Commission. Any extension beyond the initial 12-month period would be subject to organisational requirements and approval and should not be assumed.
